Sir, 

Your letter to Mr Hutton respecting the Girl now confined in our Goal was delivered by him to me & I have consulted the Mayor & some other Gentlemen of the Corporation upon the subject ~ the usual expence of conveying felons in her unhappy situation from Lincoln, has been about ten or twelve Pounds & when delivered at Portsmouth there was no further expence  attending them. I am therefore rather at a loss to account for the additional charge of maintenance &c: & that makes us here not know how to act ~ The Poor Girl one wd think has been sufficiently punished by remaining in this dreadful Hole for near two Years, and under that idea she might probably deserve Pardon if it cod be obtained for her, but in that case, I very much fear whether she wod not return to her evil Practices again for I understand she is a bad one - If there was a possibility
