any trade can be carried with the settlers, any farther than in culinary plants. This gives me a suspicion to think, that no person will be allowed for to go there to collect plants, on the account of injuring the infant nursery. It is a wise plan of Government for to adopt such measures; but should the person prove dilatory in discovering or perfecting the production of the Country, it will rather tend to increase our knowledge of the Bot. Bay plants at a slow rate; however I wish success to the undertakings, for had I the abilities for to carry on such an employment I durst not undertake it. I like the vicinity of Manchester too well for to go and settle in a far distant part for life. When seriously thought of, it is a bold undertaking; they love all their former companions, and exclude themselves from many objects that allure the mind and renders a pleasantness to life. As they are married and have made up their minds in their mother country, they are by far the properest persons for such engagements.

I do not doubt but what you are thoroughly acquainted with the chief object of my mind. I shall now state to you a little more. As you say you will not forget your claim upon me, but you dare not promise when such an opportunity will take place on account of the uncertainty of the times. I now fancy myself in the prime of life and am well aware of the valueableness of youth, to persevere in the tasks that are requisite to fulfilling natural inclinations; therefore I consider every day as last, while I remain as I am at present. It is my intention to try to accomplish  my designs in Natural History while I have youth and bodily strength and hand.  When farther advanced in years I can gain my livelihood at what I was first taught. What I am now going to say you perhaps may deem rashness. I durst engage to go to Bot. Bay (if a dependance on the risks of my life durst be relied on) if any person, or persons, would be at the expense of the undertaking and to return not only the money that would be required for such an expedition, but also the interest, as to forfeit every individual object that I should meet with.
