Upon the eve of going on journey & expecting a ship to sail from hence to England in my absence I am not able to send you any packages through want of time except one box which contains a ham. It may perhaps appear to you a whim as from me such an oddity would not in the least be expected. My reason for so doing I will inform you of in my next. So far I shall say at present. Its weight is 22 pounds. The pig was a barrow of fifteen score weight about 18 months only & had been well fed upon Indian corn; and by all accounts the ham is the largest that has ever been cured in the colony and as great a rarity here as its oddity may appear to you.
Having tried every part to the westward for to penetrate into the interior with a horse but always having been prevented by very barren rocky ground I have now fitted myself out as well as the colony will afford for such a journey.
