Cape G: [Good] Hope 9 Oct: 1794

Sir

Our India fleets having passed the Cape except two Ships crowded with passengers has prevented me from sending home any considerable collection, indeed the war has so interrupted our communication that I have had no accounts either from Soho square or Kew for two years & a half.  My last was by Capt Christmas, accompanied with a collection of about a hundred Species of seeds and Bulbs.  I think it will be wise for me to return home about the commencement of the new year.  I am therefore making ever [every] thing as Snug as possible to be ready for any favourable opportunity.  I send by Capt. Musgrave commanding the Ship Sugar Cane (from India) a small box containing about 30 Sorts chiefly bulbs.

I am Sir with the greatest
respect your &c
