Cape of Good Hope 30 April 1790          

Sir

I received Your letter dated June 3rd 89 which came by the L. Juliana.  I have wrot Several times this Year viz by Mr. Bligh, Mr. Farquharson of the Guardian Mr. MacDonald from Madras, Mr. Hayward of the Bounty, all of them took charge of Small collections of Seeds, but as no English Homeward bound Ships have touched here and I have certain accounts that they are all past the Cape, a very numerous collection of various seeds & Bulbs remain Still on my hand.  The Bulbs I have been obliged to unpack and plant.

I am Sorry that I have offended by making two Journies into to the country, be assured I never undertook them to satisfy my own curiosity but purely for the good of the service and at a period so early in the Season that little could be collected in the inviron of the Cape but a few Bulbs being always at home by the Season when the most valuable plants were in Season.  The reason my most frequenting False Bay was, on my arrival here the Governor absolutly refused me permission to go there and laid
