Cape of Good Hope 21 June 1794

Sir

I am sorry that this year has been so adverse to my endeavour of sending home my collections; the few opportunities which happened has been by passengers on board Foreign Ships who could not take care of any thing large, however I hope the few that has been sent may arrive safe and be acceptable. I have Sent by the following opportunities viz by a vessel bound to St. Helena 1 box addressed to Governor Brook, by Mr. Meyer of Kew passenger on board a Genoese, by Mr. Bisset of Madeira on board an American, by Capt. Christmas commander of a Danish Ship, by Capt. Nepean from N : S : Wales.  My intention was certainly to have come home this year but I must have left greater part of my collection which I though would be Sacrificing too much, and having had no letters from England for more than two years I did not know how to Act.  I heard of the loss of our worthy friend Mr: Aiton by way of India.  I however had the pleasure to hear of your welfare by Col: Stuart, passenger in the Diomede.  I have draw on you a Bill of 1300 Rix dollars, for the Current Year.  I am Sorry that the Sum is so large. but last Journey proved more expensive than usual having lost several of my oxen & was obliged to buy other to replace them.  I have been obliged to expend some money for necessary articles for myself, if any objection should be made I am willing to have 500 Rix dollars deducted from the money due to me.
