Cape of G:  Hope 2 Jany. 1789

Sir

This comes by Capt. Christie of the Army:  Passenger from the East Indies.

Some weeks past I packed up a collection of about 400 Sorts which I left with Col. Gordon (having since that time made a Journey into the Country) to be forwarded if any opportunity should happen in my absence.  But as non [none] has happened, and as I thought it too large for the accomodations [accommodations] of a passenger, I made up a Smaller box of 100 Sorts which he promises to deliver to you with his own hands.  There is also 22 Specimen for the Herbarium, among which is a Sp. of Palm: from the Groot vis Rivier & a Species of Loranthus:  Likewise a box containing an Asterias C: [Caput] Medusa for Mr. Aiton's collection.

I have now a Good Collection of Frutescent, Succulent & Bulbous Plant, some I think rare, excuse haste.

I am Sir with great
respect, Yours
Fr Masson
