Cape of Good Hope 17th: Decr: 1793
Sir
A few weeks ago I wrot [wrote] you, by favour of Mr. Porteus of St. Helena. who took charge of a Box of Seeds, to be forwarded by Governor Brooks, but as I fear our India Ships will be detained to wait for convoy, in consequence they will not arrive so soon as I could wish. But not to look any opportunity that that occurres, I send by Mr. Myere a Small box containing about forty Sorts. The Ship in which he is passenger is under Genoese colours and will run it so I hope she will arrive pretty early in England.
By Mr. Myere I received the disagreable news of the death of our dear friend Mr. Aiton, a severe stroke to all his friends, but to me in particular.
Capt Alt of the Chesterfield is arrived here from Port Jackson he brings the agreable news that every thing is like to succeed well there. Col: Gordon received a letter from Capt Paterson, who was returned from N: Island and was preparing to undtake [undertake] a long expedition up Hawksbury river and penetrate as far as possible into the mountainus part of the country.
I am Sir your very humble
Servant
