     Mr. & Mrs Derby have arrived safe & speak with gratitude of your attentions to them & for the important service you rendered them in presenting them in Paris to Sir Charles Blagden.

     I have had the honour of delivering your message to Mr. & Mrs. Perkins.

     This Letter will be delivered to you by our friend Mr. Tickner who has been already presented to you by my late Husband.  He is a young Gentleman of great talents & learning & will perhaps profit more by his Tour in the various parts of Europe, than any other American ever did before.  He is one who will value as it ought to be, your notice & protection.
