far superior Vessell.  I should suppose Mr. Nepeans in new situation is more beneficial than the former, knowing the great intimacy & friendship, subsisting between you & him, I may hope we shall not be entirely forgot in this Country, being remov'd from every prospect (for some years) in this Country, except thro the mediation of our friends in England, hope our being so far from England will not be considerd a bar to my getting the other step. I have wrote to Lord Sydney &c. Benalong desirs me to send his best wishes to yourself & Mrs. Phillip to whom I beg you will present my Respects & sincere regards being my dear Sir

I requested your opinion in my Letter from Rio, if the Govr of this Country dies, who is the proper person to take upon him the direction of the Settlement until proper information is sent to England, the Naval rank here being superior to the Army Capt Patterson being the oldest Officer.
