Oct 24. 1795

My Dear Sir

I wrote to you by a Ship that sail'd on our arrival for Bengal, since which the Young William is arriv'd, & I had the pleasure of recieving your letter, McDougall has behav'd well I shall have the sum you mention, as shall Benalong whenever I can see any opportunity of its rendering him any service.  I much fear he will turn out as great a savage as ever you knew him, he already goes away with the Nativs for days together, has got his old Wish &c, however he never shall want any friendship I can shew him as well on his own account as yours. You will learn of Irvins death, Barringtons conduct as far as I have learn'd, not only acquirs him protection but the friendship of every one, Brewer plods on in the old way - Collins is still retaind as Secretary, I do not know how the young man Gov. Hunter brought out with him for that situation is to be employ'd. Govr. Johnston, Belmain &c go on as usual, Freeman & Daveny are dead, McArthur has the sole direction of Parramatta including the Hawkesbury & that Circle, he has remarkable fine farms of his own but I cannot say so much for Governments'
