As Mr Banks whom I had the honor of being known to in the Niger, is lately return'd from his successful voyage, and a report prevailing of his having a grant of two ships from government to proceed on another next March, shou'd think myself provided for most happily, if I could get an appointment with him, as a junior Lieutenant, which if he thought proper to apply for would no doubt be most readily granted - your influence - Dr Sir on this occassion, with Mr Banks & a represention to him of the capacity in which I acted on board the Boston with Sor Thos as also his endeavours with Commodore Hood to confirm me in the Rank of Lieut, must undoubtedly be of the greatest weight,
