Monday May 7.1917
A nice fine warm day. There was very little bombardment last night. I had a walk around the town last night with C. Handcock.
I got a copy of the "Argus" from Merrigum today, dated March 20. Last To night there was a gas attack in the Armentieres sector and we all had to get out our gas respirators & wear them at the alert, & go to bed with them by our side. From 8 O'clock until near mid night our artillery in this sector kept up a tremendous straff. Fortunately the gas did not reach here. The local people were greatly excited & made for their houses.
