Lignacourt

Reveille at 5.30.a.m. breakfast of tea & toast 6 a.m. To work after,-- striking camp, & clearing up. Leave camp at 8.30 a.m. March to Bailleel 6 miles with heavy pack up! Oh those packs! Won't we be glad to see the last amp; switched of them. Entrained at 11.30 a.m. passed through Hazelbrouk & switched off side line & arrived ultimately at Doullens. Disentrained & because of some hitch in railway arrangements commenced a march destined to be one of long & renouned. Marched with heavy pack up from 7.30 to 3 a.m. 1 ½ hrs rest. Lost our way in dark. marched on & on & on. such a nightmare of weariness & pain Hour after hour
& no nearer our goal. At long th at 3 a.m. Colonel gives up & we are allowed to billet in stable. Stiff & sore round at 10.30 a.m. breakfast on bully & biscuit & renew our march.
