spoilt; by dint of labour and assiduity they have got into a Method of making their own Agricultural implements, beating out their Spades out of solid Iron, and in reality are very well executed. From all appearance, indeed, they are not in want of tools of any Sort. Their chief desire was a few Muskets to kill the wild Hogs that are very abundant on the Island; Sir Thomas Staines and myself having a few French pieces, we supplied their want and gave them Powder; as also cooking Utensils; of this latter they were quite destitute, the Weather was however too boisterous to comply with all their Wishes, for it was difficult to get the Boats backwards and forwards. Notwithstanding the Weather, Thursday October Christian, a most expert Swimmer, contrived with George Young, to convey many valuable refreshments through the Surf, such as Pigs, Goats, Yams, Cocoa Nuts, Bananas &c.
