comes home safe, that the Kings plants should die; I do not know the Captain even by name which I am very sorry for, so he may be assurd that this remark is general it is meant however to guard against the whims of Passengers for should the Captain bring home the Plants safe he will certainly do himself great credit & much of the merit of the success must be given to him in that case he will have deservd so well of the Royal Gardens at Kew that I should hope that Plants from thence for his Friends will never be refused him.
I do not know whether the Royal Admiral returns strait from Bengal but shall be glad of that information in order that I may instruct the Gardiner accordingly, should she make a circuitous voyage & her Captain lend his hearty assistance her Collection of Plants will prove a most valuable addition to Kew Garden, now, certainly the first in Europe. Respecting Madera [Madeira] I dare not say a word as I do not know when the secret is to be disclosd but you who do may give directions that all vacancies in the Plant Cabbin that have happpend by death or otherwise when the ship arrives there be filld up with Vines of that growth.
Believe me my Dear Sir
with sincere gratitude for the
assistance & friendship I have receivd
Most faithfully yours
Jos Banks.
