consent, and asked him before my Officers whether it was his wish to part and for his reasons, which he refused to give, but wanted me to give him an Order to proceed to Port Jackson which of course, I refused.

After stating the above I beg to assure you I shall take no steps in this business without consulting you and in every instance as far as lays with me meet your wishes as I consider the Sinclair as hired partly to convey you as Governor to Port Jackson; but if it is your wish for her to part and to proceed to her destined Port without stopping at the Cape of Good Hope, I think the circumstance of her superior sailing together with others which Mr. Jackson might point out in his letter to me, might be so strong as to authorize me as Commander of this convoy with your advice to allow it.  And if that is the Case be assured every accommodation in my power to grant consistent with my duty I shall feel a pleasure in doing. 

I enclose a copy of Admiral Montagu's Orders to me of 13th January last (the day I gave the Master of the Sinclair my first Signals and Instructions) which perfectly
