C

H.M. Ship Porpoise at Sea
10th April 1806

Sir,

In answer to your's of yesterday I beg to say that considering myself Commander of this Convoy both by their Lordships order to me of the 15th of November, and your Order of the 2nd of March, when I retook Charge of it, I think it my duty to make the Masters of the Merchant Ships or Transports attentive to my Orders, as such I have done what I conceived my duty, by threatening the Master of the Sinclair who has repeatedly and wilfully disobeyed my orders, that if he went before this Ship's beam in a willful manner I would fire a Shot ahead of him, and if he did not attend to that I would fire at him: if he still persisted in his obstinacy, to use every effort of the Guns of this Ship to make him comply, this I conceive strictly my duty for the Honor of His Majesty's Ship on which I mean to persist, considering the Sinclair a Transport under my Convoy - without any allusion to the Passengers she may have on board
