by being  admitted upon the Old Establishment than from any view to Emolument he is aware of the value of this in giving him the means of Seeing to the Sufficiency of the Execution of Duties which will then be in his Department, & a Right to interfere in all cases of insufficient execution, which he is perfectly able to Correct & make perfect with his own hands

Should it be deemed Expedient to appoint him he will thankfully accept the Place in its present Establishment & as the Duties of it will fill up some part of the time which he required to Retain as his own when he enterd upon his office, it cannot in my judgment be other than a good Bargain for the Public

in fact I do not see how too much can be done to attach Mr Lawson to the Service, as long as he continues to give his whole time to the business it will prosper, he is at present perfectly well disposed & has not as far as I know once undertaken an extra job, if this is done for him he will be made grateful & will beside gain by Countenance which such a power will give to him, a better pretence than he can otherwise obtain for interfering, as well as a greater disposition to assist in the multitude of ways in which his assistance will prove beneficial to the prosperity of this immence Establishment

# your Lordship will not be surprised at this when you Recollect that Boltons son intirely & disgracefully abandoned the undertaking of his signd & seald by his Father and witheld every kind of information he was bound to give
