sorry You have done so, The only advice I ever gave to you in strong language was to avoid by all means suffering either of those Gentlemen to know your intention of Travelling, I cannot however but feel gratitude to them for the hospitality they have shewn to you, tho no part of their motive is in any shape attributable to my interest with them.

I have applied to Mr. Lee on the subject of your adressing your letters in future to his house at Smyrna which he is desirous you should do, he seems to think that the Exchange you have paid tho high is not exhorbitant.

Mr. Parke has returnd from his expedition to the interior of Africa by the Gambia he penetrated till within 14 days of Tombouctoo & might have enterd that Town could he have passed for a Mahometan but he desisted from the attempt on being told by all the persons he met that the Mahometans who have the Rule of the Town would certainly put him to death as a Christian if he enterd it.

Mr. Parke discoverd the Jaliba or Niger River running to the Eastward & tracd it for 200 Miles at the end of which course near Jennie it is a large & navigable River, he was uniformly well treated by the Pagan Negroes whose hospitality never faild to releive him, not ill treated by the Mahometan Negroes but they seemd to hate him for being a Christian & he was always very ill receivd & twice taken prisoner & plunderd by the Arabs who spard his life but took all he possessd even his instruments he is however well & will make a most interesting publication of his Travels.

believe me Sir with esteem & regard
Your Most faithfull Servt.
