he had been dispossessed of the Command & that the 25 persons who X remained in the Bounty were supposed, from expressions which escaped them when the Launch was turned adrift, to have proceeded with her to Otaheite; Capt Edwards was appointed by the Admiralty to proceed in the Pandora to this Island, & others in its neighborhood, to recover & bring home the Vessel & such of the Crew as he could find.

On the arrival of Capt Edwards off Matavai Bay in Otaheite on the 23d of March 1791, five of the Mutineers came voluntarily on board the Pandora to surrender themselves & the Boats having been dispatchd under intelligence given by these Men, upon a search nine others (making the whole number alive upon the Island) were in the course of a few days, taken, & with the exception of four who perished in the Wreck of the Pandora near Endeavour Strait, conveyed to England for Trial before a Court Martial.

From the accounts given by these Men, & from the Journals kept on board the Bounty by the Mutineers which papers had been in part preserved, it appeared that,
