I believe no age can boast a more rapid progress in the knowledge and History of Nature than the present; The States of Europe vye with each other in the pursuit of Information, and the great Academies have sent their disciples to all Quarters of the globe to explore the animal and vegetable World, to gratify the Thirst for Knowledge, & enrich their Parent Countries with objects of ornament and Utility. In such an age the Cultivation of the Human Species merits a Preference proportioned to the Importance & Dignity of the Subject:
