<p class="page" id="a4400020">[Page 20]</p><p>and a terrible smell of dead came from them, here and there was warning boards written in big letters "Silence", we were then with in a few yards of the Turks and where ever they heard the most talking they would throw the most bombs.</p><p>Myself and tent mate was placed on guard in a tunnel which run into a portion of the Turks trench. An hour on guard an four off. About 7 pm the same evening the Turks gave a demonstration. I was in the tunnel when it started, this was my first time under heavy fire. We were well prepared and nothing came of the Demo.</p>
