  A story of the Flood

Lying off the North West Coast of Groote Eylandt is Chasm Island - There are caves and large rocks and right on Top of the rocks is a water hole -
Once long ago someone threw a harpoon into it - A big flood came & covered all the islands round about and everyone was drowned.
Since then, no one ever throws anything into the water hole for fear of another big flood.
In the wet season the water in the pool is fresh, but in the dry season it is salty & is supposed to boil over sometimes.
