May 16. Shortly after 4 in the morning the Shropshire disembarked 904 men of whom 339 were Victorians, 151 Queenslanders, 358 for N.S.W. & 56 for Tasmania. The men for N.S.W. were entrained for that State & the remainder were driven through the City in motorcars which were in attendance as in the morning there was a large & enthusiastic crowd at Port Melbourne & the men received a warm welcome as they drove through the streets. The Victorians were taken to the Sturt St. depot, where the waiting crowd was exceptionally large.
