My dear Ferguson,

I found your letter this morning on my return from the Parliamentary Commercial Committees' Congress of the Allies in Paris to which I had been invited. I will see that it reaches your Son at once.

Everywhere it is the same story. One hardly meets a family that is not in mourning, although, as a matter of fact, mourning is not worn in London now.

I expect your boy is in France: about six divisions have already landed there. They are at present well in the rear completing their training.

No one expects the war to end this year and it is quite possible that it will continue for another three years from now. The Bosches at present have not a glimmer of an idea of what the Allies have done already and can do in the
