I read with interest your accounts of the Motor Car. Somehow I cannot call to my imagination the picture of Mrs Ferguson as a furious driver. I am rather pleased to hear that you are able to get enough petrol to carry on. The petrol situation in England is perfectly distressing.

I suppose by this time you have heard the further history of Sergeant McMelville. I am afraid that I was never very optimistic as to the final result and unfortunately my fears were well grounded. He has since gone back to Australia and I suppose is now no longer even a 2/lieutenant. It is a very sad business one might reasonably have expected that he might see it through.
