My dear Fergie,
I am writing this at the untimely hour of 1.30 a.m. I should prefer to be sound asleep, but latterly have been suffering from sleeplessness which is somewhat aggravated by our heavy artillery, and especially by a 15" gun which shakes the house convulsively every quarter of an hour, and rends a huge hole in the atmosphere till the shell gets out of hearing.
