of their Lordships Orders to that Effect by Lieutenant Putland I desired him to say I should consider it my duty to execute them.  But as I always considered you on Admiralty Leave I was aware you could not give me orders while that was the case, or have any thing to do with the regulations of the Ship, which opinion I am happy to say is confirmed by Admiral Montague also by their Lordships orders to me.  But I am afraid that worthless character who has this day been discharged, has with his usual artifice Misrepresented things, but I presume Lieutenant Putland who went on Shore this Morning has learnt his Character and may be able to unvail [unveil] it to you, this be certain that a more worthless and duplicite Character does not Exist, & for the good of the young Gentlemen remaining I am happy he is discharged for his Language would have corrupted the whole.

          I beg to conclude by repeating my Wish that a good understanding may take place & continue, and to say that nothing consistent with the Character of an Officer and Gentleman on
