Provenance note

This series was previously located at ML A80-2. It was purchased in 1884 from Lord Brabourne by Sir Saul Samuel, the Agent-General for New South Wales, and transferred to the Mitchell Library in 1910. It was part of the accession which became known as the Brabourne collection.

Background note

It is unknown whether this topical verse was written by Sir Joseph Banks, a known writer of such verse, under the pseudonym 'Simkin', or whether written by someone else and collected by Banks.
