The documents in this series were previously located at ML A78-3. These papers, purchased in 1884 from Lord Brabourne by Sir Saul Samuel, the Agent-General for New South Wales, were transferred to the Mitchell Library in 1910. They were part of the accession which became known as the Brabourne collection. Brabourne Collection
Background Note
Sir Joseph Banks was the instigator of a proposal laid before the Privy Council in May 1805 to supply silver and copper coinage for the colony of New South Wales. This initiative was partly in response to the widespread practice of trading in spirits in New South Wales. Subjects: Money - New South Wales
