no doubt this was meant as an intimation that Sir John Crest was a wise man then his Son is or is likely to become.

his Father was a Barber, a more acute Vocation need not be Sought for.

This alludes to the Colonels advertisement when he declined the Contest for the City of Lincoln at the dissolution of Parliament in the Autumn of 1806, which no Lincolnshire man has forgot or will forget do for the next seven years.
