[Page 2]

You cannot Reach to pull me down, Gerdlack,
You Shall no Longer have your Ends,
I'le Conquer you, & all your Friends,
I've got you under, Sir, & Raisd myself,
Now don't you think me an ingenious Elf.

The man indignant, Seizd the Silly beast,
When it expected an attack the Least,
Gently, but firmly, holding first Plucking at its Tail,
he Laid the Sprawling monster tumbled in the dirt,
Writhing & Groveling, for Rage, not hurt,
Where all its Wrigling was of no avail,
Quickly the worm turnd on the man
& cried, I'le Sting you if I can,
You've injured me beyond all reparation,
I'le have revenge, such as belongs my Station.

6

The man Replied, you little wrathfull Toad,
Till you rebelld, I meant you nought but Good;
Tis true I help to Pluck you from the Lofty Station
Where you intended to Look down on me
as one beneath your revel Dignity,
When mounted on your Fancied Elevation,
I Laid you on the humble Earth,
to which such Creatures owe their birth;
be Quiet, Tiny, Foolish, Angry, thing,
Fierce as thou art, show'st neither Tooth nor Sting.

The Case is such, or very nearly So,
betwixt our Candidate & our Older Foe;
of Friends, the Candidate had few, if any,
Save midst the Ants nest of Successful Trade,
Where solid wealth is prizd above Parade,
of Gentler Folk, in Truth, he knew not many.
Sir Jos: Receivd him, & Produced pens,
& in due Season introduced him;
but Ere of Interests he'd Obtaind Gentle Friends he'd gaind a dozen,
he Cut Sir Joseph, & assaild his Cousin.
