Sir,
By last Thursday's Gazette I find you have met with General Porter's Commissioner on the part of the United States for settling the Line of Demarkation between the two countries and have made arrangements for commencing operations on the 10th of May next at St. Regis. It therefore becomes an essential part of my duty as Surveyor General to His Majesty's Commissioners in America to respectfully state to you my readiness to comply with any instructions you may be pleased to honor me with in respect to that service, also to express my satisfaction in having it in my power to communicate to you that the Astronomical Apparatus which was provided in London by order of His Majesty's Ministers, for the special purpose of fixing with the highest degree of precision the many important points on that extensive line of boundary
