The Topmasts, notwithstanding their Hounds and the Jibboom gave manifest Proof that there was a Stiff of Wind: I Judged it a matter of Sufficient Moment to Risk that Experiment, and I made it in the Conviction that, when it is known what any Machine will do, it still remains necessary to know what it will not do, before its real merits can be ascertained.
