Admiralty Office

11th December 1805

Sir

          I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you that they have signified to Captain Short that he is to have the direction of every thing relating to the Duty on board the Porpoise, but that he is to consider himself under your direction with respect to the Course he is to steer and the Ports at which he is to touch - and obey all such orders as he may receive from you on these subjects.
