at Sea - 27th February 1806
Sir,
I enclose a Copy of my Orders which I opened on parting Company with the West India convoy, by which you will see that the Charge of the Convoy &c. entirely rests with me, and that I am to put myself under your command on my Arrival at New South Wales ; in consequence of which I am prevented complying with your Order of the 15th of December 1805. I have no doubt this Order from my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty will prove satisfactory on both sides.
As to the Course and Ports we touch at I consider it my Duty to attend to your directions on, and believe me it is my wish in every instance to consult you for the good of His Majestys Service - as I find my Orders are for the Cape of Good Hope only I am fearful the Transports with Convicts on board will not have sufficient Water for that Voyage as such it is my Wish to consult you on that and other Subjects and shall wait your Answer, to this I am
