possible for the short Time allow'd, & finding we could not weather Point Ross, hove the ship into Stays which she unfortunately must instantly on the other Tack, the Wind leading in two Points and finding ourselves near the surf indeavoured to stay her, she came round & having Stern way before she could fill went on the Reef in a great Surf; The Mast was instantly cut away and in Ten Minutes the ship was a perfect Wreck. all the Bread and such of the dry provision that was at hand, with the Time keeper were sent away in the Boats, when the Surf riseing and the Wreck being along side no more boats could come to us however get a Buoy on shore with some whale line & made a hawser fast to the end, hove it tight got a hart as a Traveller & in that manner got all the people on shore safe. great number of things where thrown over board & most came on shore. It was very fortunate for us that the Ship went on Shore in the only place we could possibly save our Lives, had she gone where we first mist Stays she would gone to pieces instantly but as it is if fine Weather come on we are in hopes of getting most of the Provision out of her. I had forgot to mention that the Anchor was let go which had this good effect that it brought the ship head to the Surf, when the Tide rise Monday the 21st I was order'd to go on board the Supply with part of the Officers & Ships Company for Port Jackson.
