to preserve plants.  I am now about to dispatch him to the Langur mountains having procured two Nepalese to be his guides and protectors.  I have already tried them so far, as to have sent them to the mountains of Sikim for the plant which produces the dye called Monjista.  This is the stem of a species of Rubia quite different from that which Dr. Rosburgh in his manuscripts describes under that name, and which I believe is the Rubia condifolia of Willdenon.  These men brought me some young plants, and a panicle of ripe fruit, the dried seed of which accompany this, in hopes that you will have the goodness to attempt its cultivation.

The climate of England will probably answer.  The natives cut down some wood, burn the timber and branches, then hoe the spaces between the stumps and sow them with mountain rice and Monjista
