Port Royal 23d Octr 1783

Dear Sir

Soon after my arrival (21st June 1782) I did myself the Honr of writing you:  I have frequently since written to you, and particularly by a Mr. Babington and Mr. Thatcher both of the 99th Regt.  I also advised you that my Friend Mr. Thos Steel of Trelawny by my desire had sent for Lady Banks a small Barrell of Cassada Bread by the Susanna Capt Warden, who sailed from Martha Brae & Montego Bay in June or July, last.  I hope it came to hand in good order.

     If you have written to me I have only to say I have been so unlucky as not to have got a single Letter from you or Dr. Garthshore since I sailed from Spithead.

Lately I have been at Coldspring and staid 8 days - In that time I was happy to see the Wienmania in Blossom, also the Batersby Wood.  A new Plant which I meant to name Wallenia Juglandifolia, a Dioaecia Pentandria.  Mr. Wallen says he knows 4 other Species of this and that Browne has described it by the name of
