Messrs Du Terray delivered me your letter. The old Gentleman is returned to France. The Son and Tutor are settled in comfortable lodgings. I will do Every thing in my power to serve and oblige them or any Friend of yours coming to this part of the Kingdom.
Smellie a Printer published what he calls the Philosophy of Natural History. That part where he attacks the Linnean doctrine of the sexes of Plants, has been justly refuted by a Genius of the name of Rotheram, [John Rotheram] from Newcastle. I wish it had been done by a more respectable hand, but they are worthy of each other.
This Book and poor Cullens mat:med [Materia Medica] does not sell and the [indecipherable] of C Elliot will lose 5000 Guineas by them.
The Botanic Garden thrives well under Menzies, and Dr Rutherford gives Lectures in a truly learned and Philosophical stile.
My Nephews Trunks go by sea, I intent sending a small parcel of Cassada flour for Lady Banks To whom and your Sister I beg most respectfull complimts. I have the Honr [honour] to be with the highest Esteem
My dear Sir
Your faithfull Friend
