Forton Barracks Portsmouth 11th Decr 1790

Dear Sir

I hope you will pardon this intrusion But having last year entreated your intrest to become a Fellow of the Royal Society, you thought at that time it would be better for me to wait, till I had arrived at New South Wales when I expected to have been before this.  In consequence of our delays in this Country and a probability that it will be some months before the Detachment under my Command will be ordered off, and my anxiety of having that honor confer'd on me, induces me once more to solicit your Intrest and if you think it likely for me to succeed I will immediatley write to my friends belonging to the Society to ensure their intrest your Application.

I have the honor to be
Dear Sir
Your most Obedt &
very Humble Servt
