28 South Street Grosvenor Square March 11:th 1806
Sir/
This day Week, after I was in Soho Square with the Earl of S:t Vincent, I took the liberty of addressing a letter to you, but not having been favor'd with an answer, I apprehend you could not comply with the request therein made; in consequence of which (as it is my intention, at all events, to go to New South Wales) I have to request, as a particular favor, you will have the goodness to procure for me from the Secretary of State a Grant of Land such as has been given to Persons who have lately gone to that Country. A long and laborous service of Twelve Years in the concerns of those Settlements I hope will entitle me to such consideration. The English Cattle in New South Wales were imported at a considerable expense to me, independent of those, I have a number of other valuable Stock. Having ever considered you the Patron of that beautiful, rising, Country, I have presumed to make this request. I have the honor to be, Sir, with the greatest respect,
Your most Obedient, Humble,
and Devoted Servant
Wm. Kent
Right Hon:ble Sir Joseph Banks K.B.
