Portsmouth 28. Oct. 1789 

Sir

          Upon receiving my present Commission to Command His Majesty's Ship Gorgon destined for New South Wales, I waited on you but not having the pleasure of seeing you by your not being in Town; seeing the impossibility of getting to London again, I take this opportunity to return you my most unfeignd and sincere thanks for your friendship in getting me this Command.

          I have one more favor of you to by which is that you will command and give me such instructions what Curiosity's &c &c to get for you, and by so doing you still more Oblige.
