Sir,

Having fully considered the situation in which I stand as to the proposed voyage to New Holland, & being sensible that the objection, which to me is insuperable, would probably not be so to many who are qualified to perform that duty which I was to undertake, I have resolved to remove every impediment that arises from me by declining the engagement, & hope you will soon find a substitute who will execute the business to your satisfaction.

I am Sir
with great respect
your most obedt [obedient] Hble [humble] svt [servant]
W Daniell

on the Rect [receipt] of this letter I desired Mr Brown to call upon Mr. D. & sound his intention to learn  whether or not he had other reasons for declining the voyage than those he had assiglnd.  Mr Brown told me that Mr D acknowledgd he had lately seen prospects of advantage open to him which he had when he engaged & thus he wishd to decline the voyage in consequence of them.
