Oct. 9th 1798       

My Dear Sir
I am extremely sorry to know that you have been ill, but I trust and hope that this fine weather will soon recover you - it is my  ardent prayer.  I have been kept in the greatest suspence lying here ready for Sea, expecting every day, ninety of my Men round in Haarlem where they were lent to carry Troops to Ireland.  Lord Duncan has written pressingly for me to be sent to him, & in consequence I have been led to believe I should have been sent to Yarmouth, & my Men sent after me - They easterly wind now only detains them, and as I saw it was set in on Friday last, I set off for Town without leave - I had no sooner
