Providence at Spithead
July 28th 1791

My Dear Sir

     I have constantly expected to Sail every day, since I had the pleasure of receiving your letter of the 21st. but strong west & SW winds detain me - Yesterday gave me every hope of leaving Spithead - to day it again blows strong at SW - We are lying at single Anchor and ready the first moment there is a chance of doing any good, for I suspect if I was at Sea just now, I might be forced into the Downs.  You will imagine how anxious I am at this loss of time in account of the Season at Otaheite, I however hope to have Rain enough in April & May to establish the plants, notwithstanding in April the rains take off. - I wish you could now see the Ship, she is in excellent order & by far the most superior Ship that ever saild for the South Sea.  I received Notice from Lord Hood that he intends to day to pay us a Visit.  His lordship has always been very ready to render me every service, and appears to wish us success. -

     I shall particularly attend to the proper time of arriving in the Channel - July I hope will be
