My Dear Sir
The Court continued to day & adjourned to Monday - Capt. Kemp & Lt. Minchin examined - Minchin did not finish & continues on Monday. I have been very severely attacked by the two latter Witnesses - every Word of theirs I hope to prove ill founded. My Character for Swearing, passion, and abuse exemplyfied by the most artful stories - insurrection possitively sworn to by Mr Kemp & Minchin, & that even the Regiment would have mutinied had the 6 Officers been brought before me on the 26th Jany. Johnston in consequence was obliged to put me under Arrest, and that I shook hands with him & thanked him for the Act of Seizing & securing my Person, that My Daughter & self condemned Mr. Jones Character as a and others - in short their whole Evidence seemed to have been prepared to prove every thing bad in me, & to invalidate my Witnesses testimony. I cannot but complain of the mode & restrictions in the Prosecution thus far & I have only now to depend on my reply & being allowed to call in Witnesses again to rebut what has been said & what will be continued
