Sept 17 1805

My dear Sir

I have just now recd a letter from Mrs Bligh dated the 10th Instant and have just a moment to say that I feel the highest regard to you for so much great and kind attention. I am sensible that you will do all that can be done for me and in return you will ever find me grateful and watchful for and of every confidence reposed in me. She says the whole is taken out of the controul of the Admiralty, which is certainly wise & proper, and much more agreeable to me; and that as soon as I quit this Ship my salary will begin & that you approve of three Years if I wish to come home at that time, and that my half pay will continue which indeed as my Lord St. Vincent told me when at the Admiralty, I think is my due for long services, & he said was considered so. Acting independent of the Admiralty will insure me success and I shall with the greatest pleasure
