Director in Yarmouth Roads
Novr 15th 1796

Dear Sir

I am sent in before the Admiral to complete my Water & Provisions, that some of the Fleet may be always ready to go to Sea.  When the Ships arrive together they cannot be equipped speedily at this place. The [indecipherable] & myself are sent here, & two others to the Nore, some others will come in a day or two, and I imagine the Admiral will not be detained much longer out.

Of the Expedition which I imagine you have heard, I knew nothing about, untill I heard the Admiral had taken the opinion of five of his v. best Captains, and in consequence the whole of the busyness laid aside. I understand we were to have landed about 1500 men, & by their getting possession of the Batteries to have the destroyed the Dutch Fleet. The mode of landing was to have been by 19 Dutch Fishing [indecipherable] that had been detained at Yarmouth, but as these Vessels sailed with us, strong Winds drove them away before we were joined by the Troops, and it was then
